11th Viscount Cobham, DL (1943-2006)

The Viscount Cobham, of Hagley Hall, Worcestershire, died in Spain, 13 July, 2006. He was aged 63.

John William Leonard Lyttelton, was 11th Viscount (cr 1718) and also Baron Cobham (cr 1718); Baron Lyttelton, Baron of Frankley (1756, renewed 1794), Baron Westcote (Ireland 1776).
He was born 5 June 1943, the eldest son of the 10th Viscount Cobham, KG, PC, GCMG, GCVO, TD, sometime Lord Steward of the Household, by his wife Elizabeth Alison (d. 1986), daughter of J.R. Makeig-Jones, CBE, and was educated at Eton and Christ's College, New Zealand; Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. Career: landowner, Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands from 2000. He succeeded to the peerages on the death of his father in 1977.
He was twice married, (i) in 1974 (divorced 1995) to Penelope Anne, daughter of Mr Roy Cooper by his wife Dorothy Henshall (now Mrs John Turner). His first wife is now the partner of the Rt Hon David John Mellor, PC, QC (b. 12 Mar 1949) former Conservative Cabinet Minister, broadcaster and journalist; married (ii) 1997, the yachtswoman, Dr Lisa Clayton, the first British woman to sail single handed non-stop round the world. He leaves nonissue from either marriage, and the peerages now devolve upon his Lordship's next brother, the Hon. Christopher Charles Lyttelton, b. 23 Oct, 1947, who married in 1973, Tessa Mary, daughter of Colonel A.G.J. Readman, DSO, by whom he has one son and one daughter.
